About Noval Care

A small Somerset team that does two things well.

Noval Care Limited was established in 2018 and registered with the Care Quality Commission as a domiciliary home-care provider. From the same office on Station Road we also run a healthcare staffing agency, supplying nurses, healthcare assistants and support workers to residential and nursing homes, hospitals, and learning-disability and mental-health units across England.

That dual focus is unusual, and it's deliberate. The same standards of recruitment, induction and supervision apply whether a carer is visiting a home in Bishop's Hull or covering a night shift in a Devon nursing home — which is why the care managers we work with come back, and why our home-care families know the person at their door has been trained and cleared to the same level as a hospital HCA.

How we got here

Noval Care was founded by a team of nurses and senior support workers who had spent years in the South-West care sector and wanted to build something they would themselves want to work for — and that they would themselves be willing to recommend to a parent.

We started as a small staffing agency placing experienced healthcare assistants into Somerset residential homes, where rota gaps were the difference between a calm shift and a difficult one. Families of those residents started asking whether we could help in their own homes too — short visits at first, then longer arrangements. Domiciliary care followed naturally, and we registered with the CQC for it shortly after.

Today the same small team co-ordinates both sides from one office. We're proud that didn't turn up is the rarest sentence in our complaints log — both because we don't take work we can't cover, and because we know the person we're sending.

Our standards

The non-negotiables, before any of our staff meet a client.

  • Enhanced DBS

Every carer, HCA and support worker holds a current enhanced DBS check before a first shift. We pay for it; the carer never has to.

  • Verified references

Two references — one professional, one personal — confirmed by phone, not just by email.

  • Right-to-work checks

All documentation verified to UK statutory standards. We keep copies and re-check on expiry.

  • Mandatory training

Manual handling, safeguarding (adults and children where relevant), infection control, medication awareness, basic life support and food hygiene completed before a first shift.

  • Specialist top-ups

Dementia awareness, learning-disability and autism (Oliver McGowan), challenging-behaviour and end-of-life care for staff who work in those settings.

  • Supervision

Every staff member has a named supervisor in our office and a regular one-to-one. The person who books a shift is also the person who is on the end of a phone if something on the shift isn't right.
